I have a question. if it's so safe why do the feeders and, not to mention, the video photo guy wear full, I mean FULL head to toe chain mail suits LOL funny they don't let the observers wear protection though. I know I know..to protect their hands cuz thats where the food is coming from..but full body armor and the video guy also....... thats funny. has to make you think.....if these animals are so intelligent and know fish from people...I say feeders and vid dudes, doff your safety gear.

no.

two basic reasons:

1. it's not part of their natural routine to be fed by humans; and

2.is it a good idea to get them to associate humans and food?

having the campers kneel down in a circle and then having a ranger feed pork chops to the bears so you can see them up close.

A sad substitute for a 'wilderness' experience...

Those about cover my reasons.

another thought.....people are saying these carrabean reef sharks are "safer" species. hmmm correct me if I'm wrong, but i heard of a woman snorkling in the bahamas a few years ago, in an area where these shark feedings take place. She was attacked by a seven foot reef shark. I think she lost most of her upper arm...google this and see if there is any merrit to the story. if it's true, I think we should re-consider this type of practise cuz that should prove something. i don't know, maybe this shark had rabies LOL

Well, it is like bringing a tiger or lion into your home as a pet. It is really cute and cuddly until it swallows your head. Then, not so much. It is inherent in their DNA coding (or whatever)....sharks are hunters and not capable of taming (IMHO as a NOT specialist :D).

I know that in St. Maarten they do not. I went on one of these before I really knew better (or what I think is better anyways) and I am certain they were in a wetsuit just as we were. My memory mayu be failing but I do not think it is. Wetsuit only. So not all operations wear the chain mesh.....meybe they are Darwin candidates OR maybe they slept with the bosses wife :D

This was in Shallow Murky water (where most shark attacks occur) This was NOT where the feeds take place.

as to you first thought, I know feeders that do Not wear chain mail at all.

Ignorance scares me more than sharks! Kind of reminds me of the GW BS "Because I say so it must be"! Sharks are not what most people even think they are, they're not wild bears, or Lions, Tigers, or Hippos! They're an apex predator and most of all a well designed scavenger! They no more associate man with food than other sharks! We are no different than the boat, the reef, or the Grouper that show up and don't get eaten either! If you don't want to swim with them or enjoy their beauty, fine, stay out of the water! Don't criticize others and make unfounded accusation not founded in fact!
Here is video that shows a Tiger Shark and no one including myself has a suit of steel on, only a dive skin and wet suits!

These dives do for sharks what Dolphin shows do for Dolphins! They teach those willing that the shark is not a monster of the deep, but a misunderstood and a real endanger resource! :shakehead:
