So my friend from the east coast is coming out here to visit and we are planning dives in monterey for a couple days in mid october. we are gonna hit point lobos one of the days maybe 2 if possible. do they allow night diving? also any close campgrounds near by?

if we have trouble getting in on the sunday which is already booked do you guys have any other recommendations in monetrey that is a really worth while dive for day or night, not interested in breakwater.

thank you much
mark

No night dives at Point Lobos, and all of the weekend spots are already taken. Is there a chance that you could go during the week instead? You'd probably get in during the week without reservations.

Here are the local campgrounds:

Would you rather dive Monterey or Carmel? Common Monterey night dives include Breakwater and Lover's Point. You could probably hit Monastery at night, but be careful regarding swells and heavy surf. Be really careful.

ill be going sunday staying the night till monday so ill be able to at least goto pt lobos for the day.

thanks for the info on the other places. ill do a little more research. i just hear breakwater is overdove if that is possible?? would rather goto places a lot of people dont goto that accessible through shore

I would not recommend diving monestary at night unless you have already familar with it during the day. It is an advanced dive site, the beach sand is more like very small pebels giving you very unsure footing. The shoreline is very steep. Entry and exit are difficult even in the best of conditions.

Which weekend in October?

That's why I gave him a link to the review and told him to be careful. :D If they enter on the South side, just passed the bathrooms, they shouldn't have any problems as long as the swells aren't too big. The south entry/exit is a lot easier than the north entry, or anywhere along the "main" beach.

Yeah, which days in October, I might round up the usual suspects and make it a day.

I loved the California Divers News site at http://www.garlic.com/~triblet/swell/CDNDiveSites.html

Great resource. Thanks. I didn't know about it. I still think that Bruce Watkins does a better job of explaining the difficulty of entry and exit in his book than he did in the artical, but I will save that site to my favorites!
