If anybody's interested we have a few spots available with one of our annual trips to the island Hitra in Norway in October 2005. It's a whole week of great diving, although you might want a drysuit setup. Watertemps will be around 12 Celsius.

Here's a link if you want to know more: www.turut.no

Hi, we live at Tangen, just an hour drive from Oslo (E6). But that's not where we do most of our diving  (Inland)

We arrange dive trips to Hitra, which is situated outside the Trondheimsfjord on the NW-coast of Norway.

It's a long drive from Helsinki, but the trip is for a whole week. It would be worth it!

For those not familiar with Norwegian currency, 2.500,- NOK equals approximately 310 Euros, or 375 USD.

That's for the whole week, with three dives a day and comfy quarters + 1 daytrip with a 72ft boat incl 2 dives. Part of food split will be around 400,- NOK/50 Euro/60 USD.

Sounds fantastic Kompressor...

How easy is it to get to Hitra from Kristiansand by car? Also, do you have the exact dates?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Juha - expect a Private Message from me soon regarding diving in Finland. :)

I suppose you're thinking of taking your car on the ferry from UK. It's a bit of a drive from Kristiansand to Hitra. First you drive 4,5 hours to Oslo, then about 8 hours from Oslo to Hitra. But considered you can stay for a week, that's not so bad. -If you are two people/divers to share the driving + fuel.

You have to possibilities regarding dates:

1. Oct. 14.-21.
2. Oct. 21.-28.

Both weeks are friday through friday.

If you should decide on the first week you can always plan a stop at our place, about 1 hour north of Oslo. Stay over the night and then drive on with us. We'll be several cars driving together, for social coffee stops and burger stops on the way.

I must state though, this is NOT a fully professional/commercial arrangement. This is important if you are used to diving with big professional diving centers or live-aboards in the south. Please read our invitation found in our homepage carefully!

These two trips are stricktly NON-PROFIT!!!

But of course, these trips have been a tremendous success before, with about 40% of the participants going with us more than once. I feel that's great feedback to our efforts. We are currently working on quality control on our supliers of services, and of course ourselves. We think that from next year on we will offer a 100% professional diving experience, based on earlier experiences and of course these two trips for "adjustments".

Here's a direct link to the page describing these trips:

Thanks for the info, i'm going to talk to a few friends and see if anybody fancies this. I've been wanting to dive in Norway for quite a while now and you're only across a small bit of sea :)

I'm pleased that you mention it's not a Commercial arrangement, i'm not really into the Touristy scene to be honest.

Final question for tonight, does the trip include any wreck dives?

Well, yes, but not a very fancy wreck I must say. We have a "beginners wreck" lying at 32 meters in a sheltered place.

You will find some pics of it in this photoalbum:

And here's a video from it:

Other than this one there is a Beaufighter plane from WW2, but so far I haven't got the position of it. It's also fallen very much apart, so I'm not sure it's worth the struggle (35-40 metres).

We are more into nature diving and uw-hunting. And of course social life afterwards! If you look through the links in our website you will very much get the idea of our trips. We also dive "Norwegian style", which is two and two in pairs with dive leader (mostly me, sporadicly one of the more experienced participants) IN THE BOAT, taking care of surface safety. You get the dive time you want, as long as everyone in the boat's need is taken care of.

Here are two more videos from two of our divesites. Again thanks to Alexander Eid:

We've had a few more signing up, so if anybody's interested in joining us for diving in Norway in October, you'd better raise your hand now :)

I'll have to withdraw interest for this year Kompressor, my October has suddenly become a lot busier!

Sorry for any time wasted,
Andy
