Is there a video showing how to create a 'handle' for an analog compass, so that I can hold it outright when needed, and clip it when not in use? My OW instructor had one with a 'braided' cord hand attached to a large bolt snap. I would like to do the same. Any thoughts appreciated-

Why would you want to hold it while diving? You might drop it.
Simply wear it on your forearm.
Keep it super simple.

idk maybe a Berkley Braid knot?

But yeah wearing it on the wrist (like a watch) is probably 100x better.

and have your dive computer on your dominant hand?

A brilliant idea

Because the fashion of wearing a compass on your wrist forgoes the accuracy of compassing

I wear mine on the end of an arms length hose, where it was designed to be, for compassing

Just imagine putting a compass on one arm a computer on another, a slate on the other one

There goes half a day, oh then those that leave them on the boat, ohh clipping and strapping

"Where has Emile gone?" "He's in the water mate, he's diving mate!" "Emile dives a console!"

"And he usually makes it back using his compass!"

Thank you. I wasn't looking to be chastised for not doing what the masses do.

wrist compasses are great for general bearings, think more cardinal directions and dead reckoning, i.e. I want to generally go NE, I orient on my wrist compass to generally NE, ooh there's a rock, I'll swim to that, and then repeat as necessary. This is also pretty great if you only have to worry about general directions and don't have to remember any headings. Examples being "this cave is going generally east, oh that passage heads north, how strange", "I'm in the Atlantic so I know the shore is west", or "I'm in the Saint Lawrence and entered from Canada so don't exit south!".
It is pretty horrible for trying to get somewhere in a lake or quarry where you have 20ft of vis. If you're doing actual navigation, make a nav board. This lets you get where you're going in actual bad vis and is a much better way to skin this cat. It also lets you draw a rough map on the board, mark any headings you need, etc.
