I was simply confused as I expected the behavior of the software to be: you went over your NDL, now make a mandatory stop at x meters for y minutes. So i expected to stay at 6m for the stated duration and planned accordingly, but by the time I got there, the computer alredy calculated that I had fullfilled all my deco obligations.
Well it is good that you learned some important details. You should also realize that if you go into deco and you come up too slow off the bottom, then the computer will keep adding deco time, even though you are ascending. Usually it is only a minute or so on my computer.

"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing" comes to mind. Treating deco casually -- without even reading the manual -- is asking for trouble.

Too little knowledge about my dive computer anyways. Jokes aside the dive that brought up my question was under full control the whole time, a little possible deco was accounted for beforehand and I surfaced with almost half tank. It was more of a - oh, that's how that actually works - situation than an - oh, ****, what am I supposed to do now - kinda situation, which are situations I don't try to get myself into.

Yeah, I often wonder about people who are initially scared of deco, due to their OW training, then start to casually go into it and are surprised that deco seems really pretty easy, "just follow the computer".

They seem to develop a very casual attitude about deco and don't seem to be thinking about redundancy nor really have a handle on contingencies or a recognition that they are crossing a pretty big threshold.

How did you account for the little extra deco? Did you have any redundancy in case you lost your air supply due to a failure. Did your buddy have enough air to get you to the surface and clear the possible deco?
