i am always surprise why people will not pay to have a guide in order to save few bucks. Beside level of training and personnel skills it s always a good practice to hire a local guide to discover a new area. But hey what could i do.

Be safe

I ended up paying quite a lot extra on my last overseas trip to NOT dive with a guide. It was well worth it!

A lot of that depends on the guide, and how many people are in the group. Nobody else in my family goes scuba diving, so I end up insta buddy, solo diving, private guide, or group guided whenever I travel. I prefer private guide but that isn't always an option.

Curious for the responses. I looked into it earlier this year, and from what I found, there is one company that does Silfra dives, and there is no option to do it unguided. You need a dry-suit cert (or proven experience) and it is quite expensive for a single dive. The more you pay, the smaller the group. I'm looking forward to some inside knowledge from people that have been there.
