Hi- it’s been a few years since I’ve been on here, but I’m trying to figure out a good place to stay on our trip to Thailand next year. Does anyone have any good suggestions? We were thinking about doing a live board for four or five days, and then I land based resort thanks in advance!

Contact the singledivers.com group. They go there and have a trip planned next year and can tell give you some insight.

Assuming you are doing a similians live aboard, do one night in Phuket then head to Khao Lanta or if you can spend a day traveling go to Lipe

Liveaboards in the Similan are great. Then where you will go next depends of the time you have left in Thailand. Koh Lipe as already suggested is kind of far away but it is also not too crowded (as can be Koh Phi Phi for instance). Koh Lipe, Koh Lanta and some others are rather small so for a few days it is ok but I personnaly get bored after a while (although you can dive there). Phuket it as bigger island and there is much more to do. Koh Samui is between.

After Similan islands, the other spots of note that I thought were worth it were Phi phi islands and day trips to shark point and king cruiser wreck from either Phuket or Phi phi. It has been more than a decade since I was there. Things could have changed.

MOD. Please move this thread to THAILAND.
Koh Lipe is too far to travel as well as too crowded. The island is tiny. Koh Lanta is a much better choice.
I spend min amount of time in Koh Phuket on arrival and pre departure.
Will be in Lanta and Lipe in this coming Nov.

I agree with suggestions to go to Lanta. Not hard to get to, lovely island, and Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are the best sites I’ve been to in Thailand alongside Richelieu Rock. (They’re three of my favourite dive sites of all.) BTW, I’d ensure the liveaboard goes to Richelieu and Tachai as they’re a good bit better than the other sites up there, IMO.

Currents at Hin D and M can pick up, so not for everyone. From Lanta, you can also visit Ko Haa (very pretty dive site) and Bida (not my favourite, but leopard sharks are a bonus). Lanta Diver is an excellent dive shop.

Enjoy!
