I guess everywhere that cave diver dives has the floor right under them at all times.

I put the bungee under the cable tie that holds the mouthpiece on the reg. And pull it tight AF.

No flow restrictor. I have yet to hear of a rupture, but I suppose yes it would leak aggressively if it straight up burst. I find that to be quite unlikely. A more plausible scenario would be some sort of oring failure. If you wanted to only top off when your volume got low, consider how many...

It takes two failures to drain your gas. A leak, and not doing anything about it. The RB manifold is just like a doubles manifold, you can isolate it. Trimix is always sold by volume. Not sure how you figure topping two tanks with x liters of gas is any more than topping off one tank with the...

The manifold let’s you access the volume of two tanks through one regulator. Can’t do that with independents. So if you’re OOG, I can give you access to the entirety of my bailout volume in one go.

I don’t solo dive dude. And I don’t get separated from my buddy. If I legit did get separated, sure, I’d surface. Not a big deal.

I can hop in the water with just about anyone who dives a standard config and be a useful buddy without a lot of pre dive discussion. Likewise, they can be of assistance to me. With the million-and-one ways crew, that’s not nearly as easy. It might not even be possible.

@stuartv , cars are all laid out the same. Gas pedal, brake pedal, steering wheel. The chaos you’re describing of having a different control layout for each is the same thing your advocating for here with scuba. Go travel somewhere and drive on the other side of the road with a backwards...

It’s a good idea because…wait for it… everything is the same. Consistency. I know instinctively what I need to do if anything goes sideways because it’s identical to what I’ve been doing since day 1 on OC. And yes I’d go from an Oc dive to a big cave dive with the rebreather without issue...

There isn’t a whole host of regs for OC diving. Single tank and doubles. And everything is in the same place for both.

The cord doesn't really get in the way on real dives, and like you said, it helps you not lose your light. Many tears will be shed if you drop your fancy light when you're on deco. Cord also gives you options if it has E/O. Swap light heads (video, backup), swap batteries, and leaks are...

Hog wrapping a bail out hose under a loop on a rebreather.

You're describing having a whole host of different rigs for each type of diving. Each with their own management techniques and unique failure modes, and methods for managing those failures. You end up relatively incompetent on all, rather than proficient with one. Onboard dil plumbed to a...
