DIR- GUE Fundies Rec vs Tec rating

The standards for both a Recreational Pass and a Technical Pass are available in the GUE Standards document. Look at Section 2.2.3.8(A) and 2.2.3.8(B). Equipment requirements are listed in 2.2.3.9(A) & (B). The basic differences are that for the Technical Pass you need to perform all the skills...

Tech Instructor/Shop Recommendation - Seattle, WA

I should also note to the OP that if you want to meet some of the GUE instructors in the area and the other divers in the GUE Seattle community, we host Wednesday night dives that are open to any certified diver. You can check the 'GUE Seattle' Facebook group for time and location, or DM me here...

Tech Instructor/Shop Recommendation - Seattle, WA

Despite being a NAUI and GUE shop instead of TDI or PADI, I suggest you talk to the people at 8 Diving in Des Moines. They can set you up with GUE tech training as well as renting tech gear (doubles, BP/W, etc) if you want to try before you buy.

"New To Me" Gavin DPV rigging questions

One more quick question... I assume a length of cave-line is useful for attaching the hitch pin clip that is used to lock out the trigger? Or is there a better way to not lose it during a dive?

"New To Me" Gavin DPV rigging questions

Thanks! That makes sense now. It looks like I can put the weight under the batteries shown in the photo below to keep it upright at rest. This is how I have it rigged so far -- had to build a little cradle for it out of scrap lumber. Looking forward to trying it out soon!

"New To Me" Gavin DPV rigging questions

I have the short tube with one battery set (2xUB12180), but my friend also gave me a long tube with the bulkheads to build a double battery set (4xUB12180) if I want -- just need to add latches to that tube. When you say "clocked correctly", should I have the battery installed so that it is...

"New To Me" Gavin DPV rigging questions

I had planned on waiting until after I finish Tech 1 to start looking at DPVs, but a friend just gave me his old Gavin DPV when he was cleaning out his garage. It has newer SLA batteries and the original brushed motor and everything appears to work. I took it down to the ship canal today to test...

    2022 Dive Goals?

Which fish are you looking for? I'm guessing Pacific Spiny Lumpsuckers are one of them given the time of year.

    Big Island: Mid-Sept or Late-Oct/Early-Nov?

You may want to check when the Ironman Triathlon is in October -- the island gets crazy busy then.

Yet another LP85 vs HP100 doubles question

The Worthington LP85's trim and buoyancy is much closer to a Faber HP100 than to a Worthington HP100 or a Faber LP85. I have a set double Faber HP100s and a set of double Worthington LP85s and I have trouble telling them apart from a trim and buoyancy perspective.
