Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

If you bail out will you really be using 50/75? Why not just stick with the bottom gas Rather than a third, awkward, cylinder?

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

On Sunday, weather allowing, I will do a 24m wreck dive using a single and a pony. The reason for that is my buddy will be a AOW with a few dozen dives and this will be his first U.K. sea dive and my first dive with him. That rules out CCR for me, my twinset is loaned out, so to have a sure...

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

All U.K. diving fatalities are in the BSAC Incident Reports, if it was not a club dive or no BSAC members were involved to submit a report then the entry might rely on coast guard or RNLI reports. BSAC is a membership organisation run by very active divers. Those people are all very aware of...

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

You should read the actual per incident reports rather than the summary, you should also read the report form that gets filled out in case of an incident which captures qualifications. If the fatality was a BSAC member then their qualifi cations are availabl. in fact though almost no U.K. solo...

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

That is because ponys have disadvantages vs a twinset. If you can use a twinset it is almost always better. Just because “some“ people say never in “any” situation (and to be honest I think those “some” people are rare) doesn’t mean a pony is widely useful.

What do you look for in students to tell if they are ready for AN/DP?

For a sea boat dive it is essential the boat can find you. Typically for deco dives that means you must come up a shot line or on a DSMB since you will go a long way while doing the deco. I never expect to have to do deco without a visual reference. I have a DSMB and a backup, so does my buddy...

Hog wrapping a bail out hose under a loop on a rebreather.

I forgot about that. I tried this before I got a BOV. People I dive with who don’t have a BOV tend to either leave the BO reg attached to the bailout cylinder or have a 40cm hose behind their neck. That isn’t so long as to need a necklace. It is no more a hog loop than a regular 36cm backup on...

    Some COVID-19 Updates

https://www.cyclist.co.uk/buying-guides/7975/best-bike-masks-to-protect-urban-cyclists-from-pollution Protection against (ok, some of) all the nasty stuff cars, buses and lorries are spewing out has been a thing for a very long time.

Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

I would leave my BPW/v weight attached to my twinset, but I would rinse my regs etc afterwards…

Do you really understand your computer, or is it a threat to you?

Only one compartment matters in Buhlmann, the worst one. It makes almost no difference at all if you skip half the compartments. What sort of matters is the first and last ones are there, but nobody every go limited by the last compartment of zhl16. Having the first 4 and a couple of longer...

Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

Only if you have o rings or cables of death… My JJ is sat in the house and if the rain got really bad the longest part of me getting in the water would be going to the garage and back to fetch the dil and o2. The worst bit for me is the clean up after dives. From scratch build, as it is sat...

Didn’t the VR3 have VPM? Buhlman 16 isn’t at all hard. It might be twice the compution a Zoop does.

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

Emergency Breathing from Your BCD: Undercurrent 06/2011 talks about the bloke who died from a fungal infection from a BCD. It also points out the risk of getting a mouthful of water when first sucking on the hose. If you are at 120ft you absolutely must have either a proper buddy or redundant...

Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

You can see Friday evening or Saturday afternoon depending on how long we spend under the pier on Friday. On just a random day at Wraysbury or following a Brighton trip.
