I didn't know about diving the Blue Hole! That's a place I heard about from others who went there to swim.

I won't joke about Ragland - actually have been there. I grew up in Southside. I have a sister who still lives in Southside and my brother lives in Hokes Bluff. I come home frequently.

If you're ever in the Charlotte area, let me know. We just joined the local quarry (Lake Norma PDRA). It's a great place for practicing skills and just hanging out with other divers. If you are in the deeper areas, you might see paddlefish (protected species).

I mention the old names of those quarries just incase it might ring a bell with you. Each of those dive locations have their own website if you wanted to check on dive fees, etc.

Great to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there's something I can help you with down here.

Hey there!! Gadsden huh? Wow, small world. I'm actually FROM Ragland (no jokes please ;) ) but live in Glencoe now and am married to a pretty little lady from Hokes Bluff. As much as I do get to travel, I just realized that I have yet to make to N.C.

You asked about places to dive around Gadsden. The old rock quarry in Glencoe (Blue Hole) is where I plan on diving come Summer time. Dive Land is the name and they just reopened last year after being closed for several years. I have driven out there a couple of times but have yet to actually dive it. (Sadly, someone had an apparent heart attack while diving there yesterday afternoon. I posted about it in this board's Accidents forum.)

There is another quarry down in Birmingham/Pelham. It used to be the old Blue Water Park when I was growing up (and when swimming was still allowed there), but they have changed their name to Alabama Blue Water Adventure.

I've only done a total of 5 dives - one "Discover SCUBA" and my four OW check-outs. The checkouts were at the Lake Norman PDRA Quarry here in NC. Had fun getting up close and personal with the fish!

Hi! I'm a native of Alabama (WAR EAGLE) and moved to Charlotte, NC after my husband graduated from Auburn University. I have 3 children (1 boy and 2 girls) and 2 grands (girl/boy). I am currently taking break from nursing (pediatric). My husband and son certified several years ago. Hubs was gently trying to get me to try SCUBA, so I booked a "Discover SCUBA" on Grand Cayman during our cruise. I was hooked! I shocked my entire family by enrolling and completing my SCUBA cert!
