Well, I might have made that name up... They'd have to be some pretty small people, since he was less than 1' long.
It's actually a California scorpionfish displaying some unusual coloration as it rests on a rock about 30' deep. Although we usually only see them one at a time and widely scattered across the reef, on this particular day my wife and I saw hundreds of them, singly and in clusters across the rocks. These fish can display a wide range of color changes, but this one's unusual choice of shading made it stand out from the rest. Photo taken at Casino Point, Avalon, CA, July 2005.
