This is a site that Divemasters Andy and Bo call Devil's Scab, and Divemasters Tara and Pauline more politely call Lotus Petals. This type of coral, also called Rus Coral, from its Latin name Poritus rus, forms plates at lower depths and pillars in shallower water. I've also seen it Kealakekua Bay on the Kona Coast of the Big Island (though not such a massive formation). The Kona Coast, West Maui and one spot off O'ahu are the only places it's known to exist. Note the Milletseed Butterflyfish and a rare lone Domino Damsel. Diving with Mike Severns, Kihei, Maui, 3-Jan-2003. [Sea & Sea MX-5 Fuji 400 film]
