This litle spotted dumpling squid (Euprymna stenodactyla) lies buried under the sand during the day, emerging at night to hunt small fish and invertebrates etc. A more common species off Sydney is the striped dumpling squid (Sepioloidea lineolata) which as the name sugests is striped. Both species are relatively small, this picture was taken with a 1:1 tube and a Nikonos III. Both types also bury at the slightest hint of danger.
