This is a small gopher rockfish (Sebastes camatus) hiding in a crack. Rockfish fill the cracks of the life encrusted rocks. I'm deliberately making him very nervous by approaching his space. He has adopted a defensive posture and raised his dorsal spines to make himslef look more intimidating and difficult to eat. It makes for a nicer picture.
