Hello,

Learned to dive in the Middle East (UAE) a decade ago, then quit after a few years when my dive buddy (Dad) passed. Recently took it back up after convincing my wife to get certified. The water is a much much colder here, but we have been enjoying it all the same. Have been lurking the forums for a while now so excited to take part!

Welcome aboard to the PAC NW! Some great diving in Puget Sound...... and some absolutely AWESOME diving in BC and out in the Neah Bay area.

Welcome to the region? What area are you located in?

If you are looking for buddies and scheduled dive events I suggest you check out MarkerBuoyDiveClub.org. It's one of the biggest dive clubs in the region and a great way to meet other divers and learn about the local dive sites.

Cheers,
Dave

Welcome to the best diving in the world. Cold water and critters are abundant. Every dive is a challenge because it isn't just swim trunks and an AL80.

We live in Portland, but we actually haven't done any diving in Oregon, just up in the Puget Sound.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check them out!

There are many divers from Oregon diving up in Washington. I have several regular dive buddies from Portland that I get together with for boat charter dives in the Hood Canal (YSS Diving) and Tacoma (Bandito Charters). Hoodsport WA is a bit over a 2-hour drive from Portland, and a great diving location for shore dives and charters. It's about a 100-minute drive from Seattle, so not too different. I did a couple of awesome dives on Sunday this week at Sund Rock.

Hope to see you around.

Wait, what do you drive? And this isn't the 90's anymore where from Ridgefield to Olympia the speed limit was 70 mph nonstop.

If you can do that drive in that time, I'm going to call you Cannonball from here on out.

EDIT: I lived in Portland until summer of 2000. I did that drive many times to my family's beach house along the North Shore. And I was always speeding, Highway 3 included. A little farther out, but 3 hours was typically the time it took. And traffic was much different back then.

Google maps said 2:20 on Tuesday morning from Portland to Hoodsport. I assume it might be slightly better on the weekend.
