I have been diving in Cozumel for almost 40 yrs. After a two year absence I returned in May 2022. Significant coral bleaching, 30% to 40% on some reefs. Only prestine was Palancar Bricks. Fewere fish, loss of sponges. Sad to say I will not return unitl things improve. Good dive operators but the reefs have deteriorated. Newbies are impressed with the diving but you have have been on the reefs in the past, big change.

Which reefs were you on that had 30-40% bleaching?

I was just there and I didn't see that. I have only been diving Cozumel for 28 years, so I guess I'm a newbie. :)
You and me both, I was just there in late April, didn't see it either, or anything even remotely close to what is alleged by the OP. Nor have I ever seen it in the 16 years that I've been diving in Cozumel, in the last 5 years at least 6 times each year. It'll be interesting to see if the OP actually identifies the reefs in question. If it happens, I'll check them out myself and let you and the Board know, I'm going back down in two weeks.

I am a new diver to Cozumel, only since 2008. I have seen a bit of Coral bleaching but not widespread. The less dove areas are still prestine. Last month I dove Maracibo, Punta Sur Sur, and reefs north and those, besides weird currents those days, were awesome.

I was there a couple of months ago. I've been going every couple of years for twenty years. I was thinking things were starting to look better.

My wife and I were there back in October of '21 and thought the reefs were fine but did think that the fish life was not what it used to be.

Large groupers, for sure, are not as numerous as they once were. Poaching in the park may be responsible, but that's a guess on my part.
