Looking for recommendations for lodging and diving in Grand Cayman. We've stayed at Sunset House a couple of times but looking for a different place this time. Not an all inclusive resort. Apartment rentals are also fine.

I wouldnt go until all the restrictions are gone.

Ah, I guess I should check that. What are the current restrictions in GC? Something other that proof of Vax/negative test?
Pretty they’re pretty strict there. I think they’ve lighten up a bit recently…I’d definitely check before you book anything. I’m headed to the Bahamas in March and it’s not terribly strict. I wouldn’t be going if it wasn’t my honeymoon lol. Check out Cozumel.

Last time I went to grand cayman, we did sunshine suites and divers down

Hoping for more easing of restrictions by 2023 - the next real chance I have to go to GC, since our 2020 trip was cancelled. I think the biggest change is you no longer have to do a 2, 5, and 7 day on island covid test.

Compass Point/Ocean Frontiers is actually one of the best places I've stayed when it comes to the ease of diving - Ocean Frontiers is the dive op - but together they are fantastic when it comes to diving. They will pick your gear up from your room once you have a chance to settle in. They also will deliver it back when your diving is done. Gear ready when you get on the boat. They are on the East side of the island. We usually use a timeshare to stay in GC but sprung for a 2nd week there after staying at Cobalt Coast the prior week. CP had a small restaurant with pretty good food. Cobalt Coast is on the West End. Optional AI is offered. On-site op is Reef Divers.

Yes, MX is the easiest. Also going to Bahamas (Grand Bahama) in March. Still have to get a Bahama visa, register your trip, and as of a couple days ago, now get a rapid antigen test on the 5th day after arrival (it was 2nd day) and submit it to the Ministry of Health and Wellness vis its website.

It all depends on what you want out of the holiday
Dive trip vs beach trip with diving.
If dedicated dive trip, then Ocean Frontiers, Cobalt are great choices. both are way off the beaten track.

If you want beach and diving, then IMO, rent a condo along Seven Mile Beach strip and go out boat diving daily with one of the west/north side operators. They all pick up and drop off. There are good options for shore diving not too far away at Lighthouse and Sundivers as well.
Our usual routine is morning boat diving then afternoon and or night shore diving at Sundivers.

I personally like the condos at Christopher Columbus and Anchorage as they are at the north (quiet) end of the beach and are priced better than many of the others in shoulder and low seasons. I don't like Sunshine Suites particularly as not on the water. Being in a condo allows you to make your own meals if you want as well as having much more space than a hotel room. Both of the condos I have mentioned above are relatively small developments with spacious beach and pool areas. You would need a car if staying there as not much in the way of restaurants in walking distance.

If you are OK with iron shore, then Bonnies Arch condos is a good option as they have their own dive site off shore. I've never stayed at Lighthouse Point but they also have a dive shop and dive site.

My personal preference for operators on GC is DNS Diving, Big boats, small groups. Everyone has their own bias and favorite op. Other people seem to like Dive Tech, Living The Dream, Wall to Wall, Divers Down and Deep Blue among others. All the operators are good or they wouldn't stay in business in a very competitive environment.

Lots of choices on Grand and hard to go wrong.

following.....would love to go back again one day. but it is just so expensive there. the shore diving was just awesome. i would love to go with the wife and be able to stay in the northwest area and dive right from the resort / condo.
