Hi all,
First time posting in the forum. I recently went down the rabbit hole of scuba diving and I have learned A LOT from this forum, so thanks to all who contribute :)
I recently became OWD and I already have a few shallow dives planned this Summer to build experience. I also think that I'll be getting the AOWD and the PADI Nitrox and Dry Suit diver specialties before the year ends.
I'd like to dive a U-boat (no penetration) sometime next year as I have always been fascinated by WWII history.
I have done some research online and found that the most accessible ones are U-352, U85, U701, and U-853 (am I missing any?).
I was wondering if somebody had been in all four of them and could comment on which could be good first U-boat to dive. Which one offers the easiest experience for a starting diver (Conditions, visibility, depth, etc...)
Thanks!

U-352 by far. Jump on an Olympus boat.

I would say the same. I've been on the U352 three times but haven't even attempted the others. The U352 is deep but recreational. I've hit 110, 110, and 111 on my 3 dives. Summer water temps are mid-70s and viz can been 70-100'. This is definitely the one to dive if you have your heart set on diving one of them.

Thanks! Looks like the U-352 is the one to do with my level of experience.

U-352 is easier to get out to. U-85 they get out to less frequently - I know of only one operator running to the U-85. The U-85 is colder (by NC standards...) and less viz generally.

90% of people would probably prefer the U-352, the U-85 has a special spot in my heart.

I agree with U-352. Just be mindful of the current as it can be strong. Also, read some of the history of the sinking of this U-Boat so you can imagine it as you drop down and see the conning tower, etc. A very interesting, historical dive.

Cross the pond to Porto (Portugal) and dive the U-1277 (sand at 30m / 100 ft) :D
Well, that’s east for sure.

You are missing at least the U-1105, which is off Piney Point, Maryland.

Regretfully, I've only been to U-352 out of the whole list (and hoping to visit it again in about one week). It's a nice dive.
