the models show five days out it isn't past us yet.
Yeah, I'm betting that Eta breaks up after it lands, but then I've learned to not really bet against the trained experts. It could survive and reenter the Caribbean, then what.

Well sheet... after 7 years of diving Cozumel during Day of the Dead, it finally happened. Port is closed today. I'm not diving. I dove cenotes yesterday, so I dodged that bullet. I think a 90 minute massage is calling my name....

Ferryride was lots of fun coming back last night, full on rodeo with the never ending chain reaction puke fest going on around me....and crying babies too. Lol. Just glad they didn't shut it down. It took several tries to dock in Playa in a monsoon level rain with high winds.

I'll post a trip report when I get back to the states. I still hate you 2020...

Safe travels everyone,
Jay

How were the conditions in the cenotes?
Dreamgates was absolutely amazing. The runoff has created a constant tannic acid condition that looks like the halocline, just not as severe. After a few minutes your brain adjusts and I only saw it when I was focusing on something up close.

I'm biased, horribly so. Anyone that has ever dove with me knows I come up after every dive proclaiming "That was the best dive ever!!" And to some degree, I mean it. My wife does not like cenotes so I'm limited to how many times I can do them on a trip to Cozumel. The added $25 round trip ferry plus the cost of the 2 Cenote dive equals almost 2 dive days with our standard op.

Definately hit the rotisserie chicken place next to the bus station for the best $5 meal for two ever.

The conditions were slightly different, but I loved it anyway. The only issue is my neck is sore from trying to see everything, I could still be down there diving on my back looking up at the formations if it were an option. Water temp was 77 degrees. A good 3 mil and a hood was perfect for me, there was a fellow scubaboarder from Spain, @AlvaroDiver diving them IN A SHORTIE!!! No way I could do that. Cold is relative.....

Safe travels, we head home tomorrow. Ugh.....

Whenever someone asks me what the best Cozumel dive site is, I usually answer that it's a tossup between the one I just did and the next one I will be going to. :D

Holy shitballs... ferry is shut down due wind. I've seen diving shut down before....but never the ferries. This could get interesting if we can't get to the mainland tomorrow....

Jay

On edit....apparently the profanity police don't sensor Shitballls....good to know.

We are in Cozumel. I am enjoying the rain. It has been very dry back home. Pura Vida!

We are on the inverse, we came to Playa for a day at the Cenotes and now stuck on this side. Our luggage/clothes/computers/passports are all safe and sound in Coz. Got a cheap hotel for the night, hoping it open tomorrow

Going into day 4 of port closure wind has shifted to about 45 degrees but still strong, waiting to see what the port captain has to say.
Ultramar is doing even days in November and earlier they put out they are cancelling the first round trip as they access the conditions. Earliest possible departarture from Playa would be 10AM.
While searching on Ultramar I also came across a story from yesterday that the government fined them for exceeding Covid capacity limits in August and September so they may be limiting the number of passengers today.
