What they should be banning is wastewater discharge into the sea...Another threat to coral: sewage discharges by Cozumel hotels

The article you posted a link to says: “Renowned speleologist Germán Yañez has discovered at least 12 pipes that carry sewage from hotels to reefs around Cozumel, the newspaper Milenio reported. One hotel disposes wastewater via a cave that opens up to the Caribbean Sea.”

It looks like the reporter likes to “bend” the truth. What the Milenio article mentioned actually said was:

"The discovery was made by the renowned speleologist Germán Yañez, who has already found at least 12 tubes that go straight underground in Quintana Roo.”

The PVC tube passing through the cave and pictured in the article was mentioned previously by German, who said it continued down through the floor of the cave, and he did not know how far down it went into the ground. It is obviously an injection well that happened to pass through a cave on its way down to 50 meters or so. Although 50-meter-deep wells injecting treated sewage water from the hotels might not be the best, it does conform with the current ecological laws in Mexico.

Sounds like the Mexican government should focus on the big fish and change these laws.

As I tell my wife when she complains about the way someone is doing something: "Write them a letter..."

What if you drink ocean water? Is it ok to give back to the environment?

Ocean water doesn't make you pee......

is it still warhammering if it is liquid?

Open water ocean pee should be one of Mexico's least important environmental concerns.

I watched a crew of dozens of workers as they dug a canal system and boat basin through a mangrove swamp with nothing but kayaks shovels and 5gal buckets. And there were no port-O-potties around either.

I can't argue against that.
