Triton Rebreather.jpg

I'm in discussion with manufacturer and an instructor...

If you dive a Triton MCCR rebreather...I'd really like to hear from you...

Thank you...

Warren...

What brand MCCR, there are a few on market

It's a Triton.

Not sure if you've seen the teardown on CCRx Warren but here's a link
Multi3S Triton Teardown

There are a few other triton Q&A threads over there already.

Looking at the photos in the Teardown article I have some questions or concerns:

  • Clear plastic material of the counterlungs looks fragile.
  • The scrubber canister uses a single oring seals, not double
  • Chest mounted?
It looks like it has an extreme design priority for compact & light weight over durability, expansion, and utility.

Unless that is what you want, I'd look into other MCCR units like the KISS Spirit LTE or Sidekick which might balanced units from a company with a solid history and reputation.

The rebreather is chest mounted...clips to harness ''D'' rings...standard back mounted cylinder(s) are plugged into the Triton via an inflator hose and are used as diluent...

Unit is small/light/simple...and may be exactly what I've been looking for...

Manufactured in France by M3S...widely used in Europe...apparently European cave divers love it...using a small sidemount system as diluent...

Being chest mounted...I'm interested in knowing what the WOB is like...I know the Lar units...because of being chest mounted blow so much gas it almost blows the mouth-piece out of your mouth...like swimming on my back with a Dolphin SCR...

I'm hoping a certified user on the Triton will respond...

Because of European CE certification standards...the Triton is sold complete...fully assembled with proprietary controller/PPO2 monitoring...the Apeks oxygen first stage/cylinder valve are M26...the first stage will have to be changed to DIN which will be done prior to shipping...I will have the unit shipped without the oxygen cylinder...as it is not TC rated...I have a brand new cylinder to use for oxygen...three sensors are also included in the package which can be replaced through A-I...and any 812 mesh absorbent can be used...spares/replacements can be obtained through the manufacturer and through a source I have in Europe...

Best...thanks...

My ''utility'' is light...and not concerned with ''expansion''...

My Drager unit was all single ''O'' ring system...and I could get a full negative pressure to hold for 24 hours...

The counter-lungs do look fragile...reminds me of rEvo counter-lungs...food grade PU storage bags...having said that...replacements are inexpensive...and carrying spares would not be an issue...my current ''retired'' dive log has not gone past 14 dives per season in the last couple of years...due in part to ''dwindling'' local locations...

With my OCD...coupled with limited annual numbers...should last me for the duration...

Best...and thanks...

One of my buddies dives one as does my OHE instructor, they live them and are very popular in the cave/mine community in UK Europe.

Recently Ian France, (the instructor above) certified John Volanthen on one who I am sure you will be familiar with!

John used to home build RBs so must have thought the Triton was a goer.

That's great...something I didn't have...much appreciated...gives me a few more questions to ask my European contact...
