Well, made it back. Hit Bermuda 2 weeks ago. We were on a cruise, and with one hurricane down and another coming, our dives were cancelled. My brother in law, and his still at home can't come too pregnant wife with internet found Dive Bermuda out of Grotto Bay. Do, we rented scooters the night we got in, ready to dive the next morning.

That first night, we rode over to Horseshoe Bay, and spent a couple hours snorkeling in the dark. We saw lots of fishes, and even a nice lobster. Then, back on the scooters we go...

The next morning, it was a 5:30am departure to ride to the other end of the island. We connected with the guys at DB, and off we went.

The first dive was a wreck dive at the Niobe Corinthian, a former casino with a great story. Viz was around 60-80 feet, not bad after a hurricane. We saw a fair amount of fish, but the highlight was exploring the ship.

The second dive was out to some breakers off of north point. A shallow dive, no more than 30 feet, the air lasted and we were down for a while. I'm not sure I knew so many different fish existed...at times it seemed there was more fish than water. Viz was 3asily 100ft+. Great dive.

Really enjoyed my time on Bermuda. Next time, there will be a whole lot more diving.

Are you planning to go back to Bermuda? It's one of those destinations speak well of occasionally, but I don't see dedicated dive trip reports for it.

Richard.

Definitely going back. Instead of cruising, I'll fly in and spend several days.

I think I posted a couple trip reports in the past ten years. Beautiful island, beaches and water. Only a handful of dive ops and the diving for the most part is two tank am wreck/reef dives. Go to enjoy the beauty of the island and get in some diving as well. Not a place I would take a dedicated dive vacation IMHO. You can find cheap flights and from NYC the flight time is about an hour. You also clear US customs in BDA which can be nice.

I dived with Dive Bermuda in Southampton back in May. Nice dives especially the wrecks. Not cheap but the whole island is very expensive. I stayed in an Air BnB.

I dove Bermuda a couple of decades ago and haven't been able to put a return trip together for a number of life event reasons, but it is definitely in the bucket.

I have over 200 dives in BDA. Warm, clear water - but so-so diving. (I had a buddy living there so very convenient).
Shore diving is fantastic but not doable to tourists. If you can get a BSAC resident to take you out, Bermuda is a wonderful dive destination.

You got me curious...why is it not doable to tourists? Are no op.s renting tanks, or is there a law at issue, or what?

You can’t rent a car! And you can’t carry gear on a moped. So you have to find a friendly BSAC local diver (they have their own fill-station) who owns tanks and you can dive the best sites. There are some superb sites if you can pull that off!

Tridacna nailed it. No rental cars, mopeds with gear don't work and even on the buses (which are great) are not great to get around in a bathing suit and wet gear. We tried the moped thing once going from a VRBO to Blue Water Divers and will not do that again. Last time we stayed at the Grotto and used the onsite dive op which would have worked out much better if the dive ops boat did not crap out.
