Question about air integrated computers and transmitters

The same, generally, but you never know when something might fail on you.

Like today, when my brain failed on me and I forgot to turn AI on before entering the water.

What? You need to turn on AI before entering the water, not automatically? That’s a bummer.
 
I have AI and a SPG. My dive computer has a compass that’s quite good but I also have an analog compass. I also have a backup computer....Call me worst case scenario but with my like, there is a whale shark or manta party happening when something goes wrong and I don’t need to call the dive. :)
 
Modern AI is pretty rock solid.

Out of curiosity, would you (or others) happen to know when AI was last upgraded, and is it on the transmitter end or the computer (or both)?

You know you can leave it on all the time, and then post dive just enter Watch mode or turn off the screen and it will stop AI (and searching for it). Entering Dive Mode again will be activate it again where it left off.
 
+1 vote on redundant SPG. Since I went AI about 300 dives ago I've needed it three times. Once I forgot to pair pre-dive, and twice I've had my transmitter fail. It was nice not to have to call the dive.
 
Maybe it is time for some to update their kit to AI that permanently pairs the transmitter via a serial number and sends low battery info back to the comp. Since pairing it for the first time, I never had to even think about it.

Turn on the gas, transmitter fires up through pressure, auto pairs with computer within 2 seconds, jump in.

It sounds plausible that this whole manual pairing process could be a weak point in itself, if the unit can't remember its partner when it drops out?

Whoa. I've been turning off the AI after diving because I thought it would drain the battery in watch mode. If it's only searching while in dive mode, then this changes everything.

I have two AI computers and two AI transmitters both linked to both computers. Basically it would take an EMP to leave me without instruments.
I can't help myself to ask: why? I mean, the worst thing that could happen when loosing air pressure reading is you have to abort the dive. Nothing to get excited about I think?

Pure conjecture on my part. But I would suggest "v2" is possibly within the last 5 years if I use Suunto as an example

When they moved to the Pod for the Eon (and now D5) which isn't' compatible with the rest of their computers, there must have been good reason other than upsetting customers - cost of setting up a new product line etc. What the difference is regarding hardware though I have no idea.

I like to believe that the "V2" are those tx which you pair once to a computer and have the ability to also communicate status (like batt info)

But I could be wrong

Gauge is vital - What if your computer loses the transmitter signal and cannot reconnect with it ?

Technology is good but you better have a backup( a gauge ) - never solely rely on something that is important,

I always have a SPG but not a depth gauge(it is on my computer and i would buy a backup comp)
