Just wonder how your Teric's battery life compares with the published figures?

I just got myself a Teric and long story short, I've been wearing it as a watch for the last 3 days.
I know it is NOT designed to be casual watch, but on the 1st day, I had the time/watch mode on, Medium light and it was down to 90% within 2-3hrs. The last few days I've had it OFF, only displaying the time when I need it and switching it off after around 15-30mins.

It's the 4th day and it's at 38%, granted, it's been on for about 3hrs on.

I will dive with it in a couple of days, will fully recharge it and see if it can last the whole day, 3 dives, around 1hr duration and keeping it on in between for the surface time & tissue.

Firmware is updated after I purchased it a week ago.

Seems like your Teric might be having some battery issues ... [EDIT:] But IDK re watch time. I assume it would be much better than dive time efficiency (especially when using AI). I usually don't wear it as a watch but will also experiment.

Any other Teric owners who use it as a watch have detailed watch time and/or dive time info? (battery% used/hour)

When diving with mine, I only used 75% of a full battery doing 4 days of diving, 3 dives/day, 9 hours of dive time, 2sec sample rate, was diligent turning AI T1 on/off (entering watch mode or making the screen blank between dives also turns AI off), compass wasn't used, and didn't use it as a watch, but did fluff and a lot with it. Each dive ate ~5% of the battery.

[EDIT]; The manual says 3months of Standby time and 50 hours in dive mode (I assume non AI and don't know if that is diving or not). Probably we need some better detail of what to battery life to expect ...

I do think the battery % display has some quirks like when starting charging it might appear to suddenly change, or after some time in standby mode it seems to eat the first hour faster than the next...

Thanks Jay

I'll test it further and contact Shearwater about it. Will do a full recharge and 3 dives day and see what it ends up with at the end of the day.

It was 100% at 9am, time on Low light only, compass off, its down to 90% now at 1pm......same day.

I did some experimenting with my Teric - in watch mode (full brightness) using Orbits display (with moving seconds Orbit).

My current Teric is a different Teric than the one in the above post as I had it replaced and have not really dived with it since (so I don't have a benchmark for this Teric yet).

In that watch mode, my Teric ate ~2.72% of battery life per hour.

Would be curious how your/others watch mode eats the battery?

Here's the detail below and other general battery info.

Enjoy the diving!

More of a FYI from another thread: The Shearwater Teric Announced

When in dive mode, and the AI is enabled, the AI will start at 100% of the time while searching for the transmitter. If no transmitter is found within 90sec, the AI will go in to a lower power mode, operating only 50% of the time. It is certainly beneficial to turn AI off if it is not being used. If no transmitter is paired, the AI will be off.

AI circuit is on about 10% of the time with one transmitter and good signal, but this can be 20% or more with two transmitters and some dropouts.

AI impact of 10% on battery life is a very rough number since it depends on so many variables, but it leans toward worst case.

Unpaired at 50% search cycle would be less than 20% battery life impact.

I did 9 dives in St. Thomas (total dive time about 9 hours), and used the Teric as my watch while on my week long trip. The light was always in HIGH mode, although I did turn off the screen in between dives while on the boat (but not while using it as a watch). I also did the dive downloads every day and generally played around with the computer throughout the week. At the start of my trip, the battery was at 100%. At the end of my trip, the battery was at 56% without ever having to charge the Teric during the week. Very impressive in my opinion!

I think the AI drains a good bit of juice. Turning it off makes a difference in my consumption.

Would you know approx how many hours you used it as a watch during that week?

Reason for the question is that if I assume 5hrs/day for 5 days at 2.5% battery consumption per hour then I've used more battery than you with no diving (and I still haven't tested my replacement Teric yet)

I figure I used it about 4-5 hrs a day just as a watch, so in total, probably about 25 hours for the week give or take. As they say YMMV. ;-)

Do you know if it has an auto off feature? You tap a button to turn it on, see the time, and then it turns off in 30seconds or 2 minutes. Pretty common feature.
