I recall learning that alcohol after diving can be a secondary cause of DCS as it tends to mess up off-gassing. Maybe that's the real reason I usually limit my dives to 30 feet?
I took the Deep Course 10 years ago (diving wet in 35F water in May here). At the end of one day one of the instructors dived back down to the emergency air station to retrieve the nicely cold beer hanging there.

Never heard that before. Can you find a source?

I off-gas quite well after a few drinks ... in fact sometimes my boat mates will ask me to stand downwind ...

Encyclopedia of Rec. Diving (2005 edition) Pg. 5-51 ("Alcohol"). Took me a couple of minutes to remember where I put the book--just had a couple of beers after two 16' dives--seriously.

I really enjoy these old timer posts, I laugh so much at some posts my eyes water! Also some really inspiring and uplifting posts, like the 80year old gal diving Scapa WOW!

I'm 63 been diving since 1968 was 15 years old then.

I still dive the same places with a lot of the same gear. Still using the same tanks and regulators I've had all my adult life.

Fitness I agree is the key. There is a gym where I work, one of the perks of my job. Every weekday I'm up at 3AM leave for the gym at 4am work out for an hour 5am-6am. I'm not a fitness guru or anything like that just keeping things working.

Don't know when I'll hang up my tanks but I suspect that even after I stop scuba I'll still be snorkeling whenever I can!

We have 3 three grandchildren that I need to introduce to diving so I need to keep diving for another 10 years at least!

Thanks for the posts they made my day.

Could you quote it?

Could you quote it?
"Alcohol consumed before or after a dive is thought to alter your physiology in favor of decompression sickness. "Immediately before a dive" ( we all know about that)......... " Following a dive, alcohol dilates capillaries, possibly increasing the rate of nitrogen release and contributing to bubble formation. It is also a diuretic."

1900-2000 need my beauty sleep after all. Doesn't leave much time for anything else during the week. After the hour drive home don't feel much like doing anything anyway.

"Thought" being the operative word.... we used to think the world was flat. Any current info on this?
