The front office screwed up my scuba reservation and forgot to book someone to do the pool gives so now they want to rush me through all the pool and open water certification dives in one day (i was only in town long enough for two days of diving). I'm totally fine with that as long as it's safe. Just wondering if i should be concerned about doing 4 dives in one day as a beginner? Thanks in advance for any input.

The reason i ask is that if it seems unsafe i might opt to just do all the pool dives and two open water dives tomorrow and then do the other two on a future trip.

Hi,
Dont do this!! This will be totally against any training agency standards, because you are learning you need to practice all the skills until you can do them properly and comfortably. A course like this should be a MINIMUM of 3days,that is if you are already a confindent swimmer, maybe tried scuba before and have a 1 to 1 ratio with your Instructor. If an "Instructor" tried to do this in any reputable dive school, they would be fired,no questions asked....

I'd ask money back and go away...
As a reference point, my OW course took no less than 20hours with the instructor, 1 to 1.

I've done the book part and two previous recreational dives, but yeah i agree that maybe i should just do two doves tomorrow. Is it possible for the open water certification dives to span non-consecutive dates?

That's insane the shop wants you to do that. I know SDI doesn't allow more than 3 OW training dives in one day. I suspect the other agencies are similar.

Pool AND cert dives in the same day? No way, no how.

I just don't want to completely waste this trip. Just came down for a long weekend for diving.
It's reasonable to be upset about that, but there's also the concern of doing your training safely. I was in the pool for one Thursday evening and then 6 hours Saturday. OW dives were a few weekends later. I can't imagine compressing that and 4 OW dives into one long day. You'd up being rushed. Would you be able to concentrate properly?

OW certification dives can be done pretty far apart, obviously there's a fall off of skill if the gap is too big.

I would be VERY reluctant to train with any operator that even tried to do this.
