Just want to know the industry trend.

I did the E-learning at home and the pool work and dives in the Dominican Republic. My daughter was certified at a more local to us dive shop in Wilmington NC.

Open water SSI with a local shop at Beaver lake in Arkansas, AOW PADI with local independent instructor at Table Rock lake in Missouri.

neither. University course
I wish I would have done that. When I was at NC State I took swim condition and every now and again the scuba class would be on one end of the pool while I was on the other swimming what felt like my 50th lap of the day. I always felt jealous of those guys.

But to answer the OP, I took my OW was through an LDS in Morehead City, NC

I feel it coming on the same way that alcohol comes on. If you are self aware, you should be able to tell when it is coming on. The intensity will be about the same as when you are drunk. I get dark narc'd unfortunately, so I get the sense of impending doom and can feel myself slowing down. Very much different than the euphoric narc's. Maybe the dark narc allows me to sense it come on faster and is a good thing for my diving safety, but it's distinctly unpleasant

you would have had one of the most unique scuba experiences out there... It is a blessing and a curse to come out of that program... There's a reason many of us go back and take 2 weeks of vacation each year to go back and help with open water training despite no longer living in the triangle... Coming down from DC, up from Florida, for me over from Greenville, etc etc

OW with local shop in North Little Rock, dives in Vortex Springs on a trip with that shop.

I learned diving first on "my own" in Libya in the early 70's when my uncle taught me diving (he was certified in the UK as an advanced diver not an instructor) and continued to dive on my own extensively until I moved to the US and got actually certified when I took NAUI "Basic Diver" course in college in the early 80's.

You are missing the "University Course" option in your poll so I didn't vote :)

At the local YMCA ... they don't do scuba classes anymore ...

... Bob (Grateful Diver)

Local dive shop for the class and pool work, and Caribbean island for the open water dives. I suspect there will be a lot of this, and it isn't really reflected in any of the answers in the poll...
