O2 + CO analyzer choices.

Coming out with a good name is not easy
We tried: "Carbon Monoxide & Oxygen Analyzer" ..... but was too long
We tried: "OxyCO" ... but is too similar to another product
We tried: "COOxy" .... but it could be misunderstood for something else ....
We tried some anagrams using the word Analyzer (part of it) ... but they were rejected right away

How would you pronounce "CO-Otwo"?

We would like to pronounce COOtwo as an abbreviation of "Cool too" ... (without the "L")

Anyway ... we have still few days before we launch the project on Kickstarter. We are open to suggestions.
If anyone comes out with a very good name for the product (and we end up using it) s/he brings home the DELUXE version.

This is why there are professionals who do this sort of thing for a living... I know at least one who would have been happy to help you come up with something compelling that conveys a motivating brand promise well above the functional "spork" level.

We ended up with the name my son came up with. At least he did a good job (I think) with the artwork

Seems like a great product that could own the recreational analyzer market in a "chicken in every pot" way. I'd have recommended exploration (and testing) of more benefit-oriented options to speak to that broader appeal. If you were still committed to going down the purely functional route, I'd have at a minimum recommended against leading with the gas that could kill the customer. Fear always has a much more narrow appeal than hope.

Leading with the gas that could kill the customer? Actually, either gas could kill the customer. And maybe it's good to lead with the gas you think is more likely to kill the customer. Or to be earlier in the alphabet. I'm sure a study could be done to see what name sounds better to folks. Who will then buy this product (or not) for it's functionality, not it's name - which I think is just fine.

This seems the mindset of a focus session I was involved in to test names for new semi-conductor integrated circuits. (I was involved as Product Line Manager for a product line that would potentially use the IC, not in the actual engineering evaluation of the suitability of similar products).

I must have dozed off during that session when I got my MBA, but the idea of someone overriding an engineering decision based on their personal impression of the name of the chip is ridiculous.

Why do you assume that the purpose of coming up with a good product name was so that someone could "override an engineering decision"?
