Thanks for all the tips, everyone! I will definitely check these out; sounds like there are some good options. Unfortunately I don't have a mac, so MacDive isn't currently an option, but that may change going forward so I'll keep this in mind if I make the change!

+1 for subsurface.

It's FOSS software, it's very easy to use (although setup could be interesting, depending on the make of your computer), and best of all, the XML data file is so incredibly simple that I don't think I'll have any problems at all should I ever decide to change software. I use it with my Hollis computer and have no issues.

I keep my log file in my local Dropbox folder so I have a copy sitting in the cloud, should my home ever burn down, flood, or experience alien abduction.

After reading this thread I downloaded and installed Subsurface. Very nice! I had no problems running it on Windows 7 or communicating with my Uwatec Galileo Luna computer. I think I will probably using this instead of the software that comes with the computer.

Thanks for the heads up!

....... I've tried ...... DivePal, but ......feel like they were designed in about 1987 and are not easy to use. ... .....
Could you please be more specific?

...Ideally, I'd like a program that I can use to manually enter the dives I did before I got a dive computer, as well as upload the dives via the USB cable for the computer......
divePAL does that

...Major plus if there is also an iPhone/iPad app. .....
divePAL does that .... and soon there will be a web version too :cool2:
Additionally, logs created with our bluebuddy wireless data logger are compatible with divePAL.... You import a log with the smartphone and it will show up on your PC too

also been looking for a more enhanced stand alone Windows program instead of the supplied Suunto DM4. DM4 is ok but I want also more features in this tech age. Here is what I like. I usually take a standalone water resistant Garmin GPS with me on the boat. It logs my dive locations. So no need for the phone and risk it getting wet and destroyed.
So when I'm back at the hotel I have a gpx file from the GPS and my dive logs. Problem is I have not found a program that can import the gpx data and sync it with the dive log from the Suunto computer. I tried dive log 5 and while it says it can read the picture exif data it does not show my dive log then on the map still. Its easy when taking photos, just load them in Lightroom and sync it with the gpx file. Works great but my dive log has yet to sync up too.
Any ideas? Looked at subsurface but it seems it only syncs with the smartphone app. plus photos can not be linked either.

thank you. Just saw it. I'm excited to try it out when I get home. Still in the office don't have access to my gpx files. Will try and see if I can attach it here as a pm later. If not, I pm you my email address and you can email me and I will send you a gpx file that way.
Thanks. Danke

Hi

I've answered the question about the GPS exif data in the Diving Log support forum thread. I think a gpx import would be also a good idea. Can you send me a gpx file with some dive site coordinates, so I can have a look at the file format?

I see Sven replied, but I'll add a +1 on Diving Log 5.0. I found the manual entry of previous non-computer entries went quickly, and it syncs fine with my Oceanic VT3 without having to go through the Oceanic software. It syncs from by old Win7 machine to cloud and then back to my Win8 Phone, and it seemed to convert to Win8 on my laptop with only a minor tweak to the Onedrive sync process.

Yes I agree Sven and I worked out some GPS bug and concluded it is best to use the Univeral Downloader as it seems to work more reliable than the Suunto option. But that program does what I had in mind and then some. Simply superb. Looking forward to more features in the near future. Well worth the €€... I already bought the full unlocked version now.

Any idea of a software that works with Uwatec/Scubapro Meridian? Not sure if this is a rather new computer or what, but I've checked many of the options mentioned in different forums and haven't found one that can import data from my Meridian. So far I liked Diving Log 5.0 and Diveboard (cloud) but none of them recognize my Meridian natively nor via import. Diving log apparently can read file from logTRAK (a very mediocre program that comes with the computer) but when I try I get an error.

I'm looking to import also Apena (freedive) dives as well as the heart rate that is saved in the computer, too
