Adopt at home or adopt abroad...just adopt. My little terrorist, Dixie, is from the Dallas SPCA. I support the Cozumel HS personally and on the Shark Tank because I think they do very good work with what they have to work with and the island has more than it's share of neglected, discarded and unwanted animals as well as uneducated people when it comes to pet management.
...stupid debate. If you want to adopt a pet in Mexico or at home, what does it matter? Animals need homes in both places and if someone is willing to take on the responsibility of a pet, that's great...period. heck, if your home can accommodate more than one pet, get one of each! Do Mexican dogs bark in Spanish?
all's I'm saying is that there are folks out there that DO want to adopt from the Cozumel shelter, some even do it without even setting foot in on the island! you can adopt right from the HS website without even coming to Coz.
For that reason and because some animals are still being taken care of medically when they are adopted, and can't go home immediately with their new owners, the HS needs people to help bring the animal to it's new home, and if you are willing to do it, they would much appreciate the help.
If you can't or don't feel right about getting a pet abroad, please visit a local shelter or rescue and get your pet that way. There are literally millions of unwanted and discarded pets in the U.S. alone.
If you are not a pet person, but would like to help. All shelters, including Cozumel's can always use monetary donations. Food, comforts, medical supplies, building maintenance and staff wages are not free.
