Hi,

I have this old SeaQuest Infinity regulator which I like very much but lately it has been a problem to get it serviced, the kits are getting scarce and I'm afraid that soon I'll have to get a new one it there are no spare parts for this year maintenance.

I like my current regulator because it is easy to breath and gives lots of air, at depth up to 160' (don't tell anybody) and in different positions is the same. The thing with it is that it tends to freeflow but after 18 years diving with it I've got used to that and is no problem.

As a replacement I'm thinking about an Aqualung Legend (I still don't know how deep my wallet can go to get either the regular or the Lux).

I usually dive in warm water (nothing under 65º) and is not uncommon going to 130'.

Any advice, options or alternatives will be appreciated.

The problem is that particular 1st stage.

As you probably already know SeaQuest regulators are really US Divers/AquaLung models......yours is a bit of an oddity for US Divers being a balanced piston, they are really much better known for their diaphragm regs. The US Divers Gulf didn't stay in their lineup very long and quite a few years after it was dropped it was picked up again to fill out the newly acquired Seaquest line with regs as well as BC's.

If you want something less spendy than the Legend you could do much worse than a used AquaLung Cousteau / US Divers SEA / SeaQuest Spectrum (the diaphragm sister model to your Infinity)......basically the forerunner to the Legend. Stick a balanced 2nd stage on it and you won't even be able to tell it wasn't a Legend.

Well other than being able to take a pound or two off the weight belt.

The Legend is a great Regulator, though if you are worried about the price, I would look at the Titan LX You get most of the features of the Legend, for a lower price point. The only option you would loose it the inhalation effort knob (you can have it added for a relatively small sum of $) and environmental seal (the LX Supreme can give you this if you deem it necessary)

I own two legends, but only because at the time I bought them the Titan were not available with two HP ports, the new 2013 version now does. had they been available at the time I would own two sets of Titans.

Regards,

If Fishpie is correct and the problem is just the first stage then why not just replace that? You can purchase a used SEA or Conshelf first very inexpensively.
