Hi all! I will be in Edinburgh, Scotland July 26 through August 4, 2012. I would love to do some diving while there. I have never been diving in Europe. I'd like to be able to drive from Edinburgh and dive the same day, then return back to Edinburgh. I will have my own rental car, so getting up early to drive will not be a problem. I am able to bring all of my own gear, but would need to rent tanks and weights. I have a DUI drysuit, so exposure protection is covered too. I have cold water regs as well (Aqualung Glacias and standard non-cold water alternates). I likely won't have a buddy with me, so good competent operators that will let me dive my computer and won't over charge would be appreciated if anyone knows of somebody to recommend. Thanks!

Thanks Dave. Any other recommendations out there for anything within a few hours would be greatly appreciated as well.

Sorry, I can't be of much help to you, as I know the West coast of Scotland rather than the east.

Some of the best diving on the west is around Oban and the Sound of Mull, with wrecks like the Breda, Rhondo, Thesis, Schuna, Hispania etc...... However there, diving, and back within a day from Edinbrough is probably to possible. Puffin Dive Centre - Scuba Diving, Commercial Diver Training always used to be THE address for diving inNW Scotland.

There will almost certainly be some diving on the East coast, a quick web search found: DEEP BLUE SCUBA - SCUBA diving in Edinburgh, Scotland although I don't know what they're worth.

St abbs is really worth going, and it is really close to Edinbrough (close the Eyemouth in the Scottish borders post code TD14).

This was the dive that my buddy saw a seal, and kept on tying to show it to me, and I never saw it. The bugger spent nearly all the dive trying to bite my fins, and stayed behind me whatever I did to try and see him. I now have a much prised set of bitten fins.

you could think about contacting Farne Islands Diving, Wrecks, Seals and sealife with Sovereign Diving at Seahouses, it's south of Edinburgh, in England, but diving with the seals off the Farne Islands is superb

Thank you as well sylpha.

I didn't say that my other memory of St Abbs was the long trek from the car to the water in full gear.

I thought about suggesting Scapa, but I looked at Kurts profile. He is AOW (with EANx and Wreck), and my memory of Scapa is that the interesting wrecks are >30m, and that the shallow block ships have strong currents. I thought that perhaps it was not the best suggestion.

As a general rule, we used to insist on Rescue (minimum) for Scapa trips, and to really take advantage you need to go into deco and have a twinset to have enough bottom time on these wrecks. EANx32 gives you less than 30 minutes at 34m / 110ft? (pPO2 1.4) to see a wreck that is 150m long.
