Seacure mouthpiece apparently won't fit Mares Rover 12 Options?

Ok, just dove a new set of Mares gear for the first time and I can't keep the reg in my mouth. I really can't put my finger on the problem, but it it what it is. I am used to Scubapro gear and have never had a problem before. After reading reviews I went to purchase the Seacure mouthpiece. ($30 bucks is a small price to pay for an oxygen connection) I see they make three models to fit various regs, but they specifically state "newer model Mares, EXCEPT the MR12" and a few others. I believer the Rover 12 and MR12 are synonymous. Any help on this would be great as the reg is pretty much unusable until I do something. I would do the Mares moldable deal, but after finding that my reg may be the odd man out I don't even know if that produt would fit.

Did you keep the original mouthpiece? If the slots are the same size then I wouldn't know why it would not fit.
I'm sure if you contact Sea Cure, they can give you an explanation as to why it doesn't fit.

You could try long mouthpieces instead of Sea Cure. They do the same thing with the exception that you don't have teeth marks in your mouthpiece. Honestly I don't think Sea cure is that special unless you have a big mouth. For regular sized mouths, it's the length and width of the bite plate that actually helps to keep the mouthpiece in your mouth, not the molding of your teeth. The molding only helps if you bite down real hard, but again because of the size of the bite plate wedging against your cheeks, you don't even need to bite down hard.

btw, I think MR12 stands for Mares Rover 12. It's always good to cross reference with the other manufacturer's websites. Sometimes certain websites like to use acronyms rather than the full official name. Case in point.

My wife and I each had Sea Cure mouthpieces for a while. It sure molded well, but the mouthpieces felt a little long. I was at 100' when that mouthpiece tickled the back of my mouth a leetle too much and I wound up gacking pretty good at depth. That was the end of that mouthpiece. My wife never got comfortable with the fit either.
Other people love them to death, so don't let me rain on your parade.

What kind of mouthpiece did you use before and what do you have now, are they both the pretty generic garden variety, or something special? If you've gone from plain to something different, maybe just try a generic mouthpiece again first, or something similar to what you used before if you liked it. (Are you sure it's the mouthpiece and not something else going on, like a different hose length/alignment/stiffness causing the hose to pull on the reg somehow?)

Seacure mouth pieces comes in three sizes so they fit different regulators. The package tells you what size fits what model/brand. They are intended to be trimmed so they fit different mouths and come rather big.... like choke you big if you do not trim them. You boil them and then put them into your mouth to mold them. The instructions are detailed and clear.

I have been using these for years. No one here seems to understand how they work. Rather self explainatory IMO. Contact Seacure with questions.

I have had a seacure for several years now and just purchased new regs (AL Legend Lx supreme). I HATED the stock mouthpiece. Anyway, the seacure wouldn't fit so I am now waiting for a type 2 on order. Once you have one, you just can't go back to the crappy little front loaders that you have bite into for dear life. That AL mouthpiece was so short my eye teeth were the only things holding it into my mouth and with the cold shield on, it felt like it was always pulling out.

I do know that the seacure was a bit long at first and almost triggered a gag reflex. Trimming the tails and resetting the bite worked awesome. I just saw his video with a full demo of the fitting process.

For your problem of not finding a size to fit your reg., I would suggest taking a look at the fitting chart on seacure's website. In addition to the list of regs, they provide the dimensions of the orifice. It may work to get one that is a little tight, then heat that end up just like you do for setting the bite, fit it, ziptie it, then cool it. I can't see why it wouldn't mold itself to the orifice as easily as it does your teeth.

There are probably other reasons why your reg is not comfortable in your mouth, specifically hose length and routing. You could try one of the flex hoses, you could also try experimenting with hose length until you find something that doesn't pull the reg out of your mouth.

I love the sea cure mouthpieces, but if they don't fit, they don't fit. They're hard plastic so there's very little wiggle room in terms of fitting on the reg flange. There are a few longer bite-tab mouthpieces around that are soft enough to mold around slightly different size/shape flanges. There's one in particular that looks a bit like the atomic mouthpieces.

Mares has a forum on SB, so maybe try looking there for support.
