Wide angle WA20 and WA15 on Ikelite S90

I have a quetion for Dyron Staff.

I recently purchased a WA15 M67 for my C5050 with Ikelite housing. I've read some good reviews online, but
with my setup, no picture is sharp. Shuttert times have gone up exponentially and getting a good focus is impossible.

Is this lens suitable for the Ikelite housing?

Hello Ferry

For Ikelite housing with this camera no problem.
Have you put your camera in "macro" position, for a perfect focus this lens need to be used with camera in "macro position" all the new camera set macro mode automaticaly, but with old camera like yours you need to do it yourself

Thank you for your answer.

Yes, I did use the Macro position, all other settings on automatic.
Shuttertimes went up to 1 second with the lens.

I've also tested in bathtub, with same results. Very long shuttertimes and all pictures out of focus. When looking through the lens directly I need to hold it about 5 cm away from my eye to have a sharp image.

Any reply to this from Dyron?.......this is pretty important....though I really cannot comprehend why on earth the addition of a wide angle lens would cause shutter speeds to slow down drastically (if at all - except for telephoto lenses which reduce effective aperture)...or why grain size would increase (unless auto ISO was used and started scaling up)....

No response so far. The glas of the lens was very dark, acting like sunglassen (vissible with naked eye as well). Focus issue no idea, but I swapped te lens for an Inon. To be honost, after using the Dyron, the Ikelite an now the Inon, both the Ikelite and the Inon are more sturdy built with the Dyron comming apart when taking it off the housing.

Did you check if you have water beetwen lens and glass of the housing
We are in investigation because some user seems to have the same problem of focus, all this lens are from new serial and we thinking some glass are defective.
We are really sorry of this, and going to change all the deffective lens.

Yes the lens is really dark it's the special coating inside and outside the lens.
The focus problem seems to come from bad serial of glass.
All the deffective lens going to be change in a short time

I've just ordered a 20mm Dyron lens from underwater.com.au | Dive Australia, Oceania & Asia Pacific - Scuba Diving Directory and Community Portal (the only supplier in Australia) as I am heading off to the Philippines on jULY 6. I am hoping that my lens is not defective as I will be very disappointed if my photos don't work out well on this trip. I also still can't figure out what kind of coating would make the lens 'very dark' - so much so that it affects aperture. I must admit that I now have less confidence in this product

The DY.67WA20 is different from the DY.67WA15 where it seems we had problems on 1 serie, so you are not supposed to have any of the problems that occured with few DY.67WA15.
What housing/camera will you use?

Pas probleme about your English - it is much better than my francais! I just have the Canon WP housing - but it seems to do a pretty good job (though I haven't had it in the water yet, the ergonomics of the controls seem fine. I look forward to posting some images on my return - I have the Inon d180 strobe and a macro wet lens as well.

The Dyron 20 mm lens arrived and I must say I am really very impressed. It is incredibly lightweight and compact, and yet I just took some test exposures in the pool - just simply setting the S95 to auto....and yes...the camera does set itself automatically to macro (but not if the camera is in manual mode)...Well...this simple lightweight lens seems to be corner to corner very sharp...wth zero chromatic aberrations and absolutely no sign of barrel distortion. I actually can't really figure it out! The only thing noticeable upon zooming in (a lot) is that grain size is up a bit (but that it typical of a camera set to auto as ISO will have blown out a bit)....Normally underwater I would shoot on manual at around 100 ISO...One other thing I seemed to notice with this rig is how instantaneous focus fixes. This will be brilliant at the Beqa Lagoon Shark dive where I've always had problems fixing focus on fast moving sharks. I'll know more after I've done a dozen dives at Apo Island in The Philippines next week...but early signs are promising.
