OK, I realize it's in the W&C forum and all, but the recent display of "you wanna fight, watch me win" by a certain SB staff member went beyond the pale.

You should've left the thread closed, rather than re-opening it long enough to allow a handful of dog-pilers to jump all over the OP, then close it again.

Pete ... I thought you were against that sort of behavior. Publicly humiliating a member of this board just isn't something that staff should be participating in ... however "justified" you feel. Y'all could've and should've just shut down that train wreck before it got to that point, rather than egging the mob on to "burn the witch".

That display cost a couple of you guys my respect ... although I'm certain you don't give a crap. I think sometimes y'all forget that it's the members who have made this board a success ... even the ones you don't agree with.

I have to agree. Scubaboard could make major differences in this industry. Then they allow the dog piles and silly stupid stuff to really degrade the ethics and quality of the board. It's to bad they had a chance to make a major difference in the industry now it's probably mediocre at best.

I do apologize that it indeed took place in the public forum. I wish the other party involved was also capable of keeping it private. Unfortunately this spilled out into the public arena.

For the integrity of ScubaBoard, Pete should make a statement concerning adherence to TOS and the conduct and professionalism he expects from the staff. Everyone has opinions, people in power have a duty to rise above such antics. If this type of behavior from members and staff can not be curtailed properly, ScubaBoard will indeed become an extinct train wreck. I surely hope not.

As a newer diver, I cannot express what an invaluable tool this forum has been for me. Although the thread in question was not the only instance of this sort of behavior, it is by far the worst I've seen since joining the board. The fact that it was allowed to degrade from spirited to down right hateful is a shame and should have been nipped in the butt at the first signs of such acidic personal attacks. Several of the posters definitely need to grow up and learn at least a smidgen of decorum.

Seriously, this quickly degraded from a he said she said about avatars to a witch hunt. Who the f$&@ cares what avatar a person chooses. If this is such a huge issue, then the board might simply want to consider striking all avatar from peoples profiles.

It had nothing to do with the avatar of the user. Nothing like that at all. It was about 2 years of constant prodding, and behind the scenes jabs, and occasionally the other party posted publicly things that were in poor form to do so. The only possible response IMO was a public flogging... SO I acted alone.

Instead of adding to the drama that this was... Maybe just let it go. "The integrity of scubaboard"? I'm sorry but that's a little dramatic for this... but again. I am sorry that I slapped her (one user out of the thousands who come to the site daily) so hard. One user in more than 5 years of me doing my work which is for the most part thankless... Quite frankly, you all aren't being subjected to her behind the scenes torment, name calling, and jabs that were cleverly safe enough to "not violate the TOS". You all didn't see the stuff that lead up to the outburst, and I assure you with my many years of faithful service to this community and my time which I have devoted to the maintenance of the site, that it was what it was an isolated incident.
