or send a self addressed stamped envelope so they copuld load that monster in their

Sorry if I missed it but did you happen to ask if you could do that? I have tried it in the past and was told no for liability reasons but if you talk nice to someone maybe you could get a different result. Worth a shot if you have not already tried.

No, I just paid the rate. Be glad to have it fixed regardless.

Did you try getting the part from where you got the camera? Dealers should be helpful. I paid about 8% more for my camera to get it from my LDS; my agreement with them is I don't mind paying a little more than online to buy from them, just not a lot more - and they match online prices when they can, or come close. I do very little with them really, but if I need help with that camera, that's where I'll go.

Generally, I deal with Sealife direct and have been impressed with how generous they are, but then my approach would have been to send in the housing. I pay round trip shipping but they fix whatever, and are very generous on work and parts, very!

I can see why they use UPS, but it would be nice if they could mail small parts by Priority Mail in a padded envelope, taking a risk on losses. Again, dealers should carry those.

Don, I don't know of a dealer that carries individual parts for any camera housing.

Maybe Leisure Pro/Adorama, one of the biggest DIVE & CAMERA shops in the world, but that'd be about it.

Most dealers don't even carry spare o-rings for camera housings. It's just not an item thatn regular "mom and pop" dive shops have. You kinda have to go to the manufacturer to get them, or have the dealer order them.

Yeah, USPS padded envelope and a stamp are nice, but most businesses don't use them because USPS isn't as dependable and tracking a lost item with them is about worthless. They can't even track delivered items most of the time. So businesses quit using them to ship product because in the end it just ticks off the customer when the item gets lost, and then they are out the cost of the item, the shipping, and having to send a second one. Often they loose the customer over something like this.

It's just not worth to them in the long run.

I suppose not. :(

Now on low cost items, I think the risk could be accepted. Send by First Class or Priority with an email including "To avoid higher costs in shipping, your needed part was sent by cheapest means, but you should receive it soon. If you do not receive within x business days, let us know and we will reship." I've ordered countless small items from overseas that way, with like $3 shipping fees - no problems.

Ok, I got the part. I give them credit very fast service. It was sent usps, the postage on the box was $5.20. They charged me a flat rate of $9.95 for shipping. Whatever, it is fixed now! I guess the extra can be for handling charges.

And just to toss our 2 cents worth in, we are one of the largest authorized Sealife Dealers out there as well offering a full range of products and parts and our flate rate shipping charge for that same part would only be $7.45!

$7.45 for $5.20 worth of shipping is better than $9.95 for the same shipping, but..:idk:

Anyone else notice all the "FREE" offers these days on TV and radio. Of course, you then pay a "small fee" for shipping and handling.....

My brother got a nicely worded invitation from one of the major internet book sellers to resell his books, with an carefully worded explanation, suggesting that the real profit would be made by overcharging for shipping, allowing him to price the books themselves very competitively! :shocked2: :shakehead:

I just saved a bunch of money on car insurance! Err.. .sealife parts.

Reviving this ancient thread mainly just to tell folks that the site still exists.

scuba.com has many parts for sealife, but I couldn't find what I was looking for on their site. I was hoping to use them since I have some level of trust as I've had good experiences with them.

I was after the battery door for a sea dragon flash (SL96302) that I broke on a boat recently. I thought for sure I'd be buying a new flash!

Shipping was $7.95 and will take over a week. They're no Amazon but better than nothing for sure!
