Looking to enter the water just south of Aquarena Drive and drift down to Rio Vista Dam – 555 Cheatham Street. Is that the best place to exit?

Any information appreciated.

That is where I exit. I like to be grossly over weighted for the dive. The current is strong and the extra weight helps me stick to the bottom while treasure hunting. Lot of treasure on that stretch of river, people have been losing/throwing away stuff there for centuries.

One thing to remember, it is against USFWS regulations to remove any plants in that part of the San Marcos

So I can't go "medieval" as you would put it :)

that is true you cannot remove any plants...that is why the SM river is choking to death it is almost impossible to dive that river because of the "weeds"....but with recent rains it is a bit deeper 8'-10' so there will be some spots that you will be able to cruise around the "weeds" the Comal is a better river to dive....good luck I will look for you Sat when I am out....oh yeah it would probably be against some type of law if you went "comando":rofl3:

You don't have to go midievil. You will probably emerge looking like the swampthing anyway. Just try to be gentle with the wild rice. The Comal is a much easier dive, but the San Marcos is better treasure hunting.

If you park at your entry point, how do you guys (and gals) get back to your car if exiting at the Rio Vista dam?

You can, it is just a minor Federal felony. A permit from Fish is needed to clean up the river and those are tough to get. I have worked out the logistics for a cleanup a couple years ago and it wouldn't take that long to do.

"The Dive" We drove two cars, parked one at "Childrens Park" just north of Rio Vista-parking lot filled with kayakers. Drove the gear up to the university. Hopped in, I was dry, Dan in a 3mm. The current was fast. Viz was great, depth 2-10 feet, fast current. In some holes you could hang for a while and enjoy. Lots of fish variety from small to large. Picked up 4 pairs of good sunglasses. A lot of beer cans, bottles, shoes, shorts, bathing suits, underwear and debris on the bottom. It took 35 minutes to get from the University to the park. Various factors included, we give it a 6/10
