Well, I work for myself and can work as much or as little as I want. Funny thing is, there seems to be an inverse relationship between how much I make and how much I dive. Still trying to sort that one out.

My question, though, how happy are you?

I did my AOW with gear that I bought on eBay.
I splurged on mask, booties and snorkel and got them new.
The used items were regs....... around $35.00, BC was $20.ish, shorty was another $20. and the fins were $9.99 plus S&H....:)
I paid roughly $200.00 for everything.
You can dive on a shoestring budget if you have the time and know how to shop used stuff.
There's tons of information on the net to eval what's out there for sale.
As far as dive opportunities, that's where I prefer ton spend most of my money.
Roatan is waaaayyyy better than local quarries and the cost is much more reasonable than most dive trips.
Then again, you can do a western caribbean cruise and dive 4 or 5 great locations in one trip for cheap.
I think Carnival has 7 day cruise out of Tampa for around $600. and it stops in Cozumel,Belize, Grand Caymans and Roatan...and they stay in port all day so 2 dives at each spot would be easy. Heck, you might even get 3 or 4 dives if you wanted to.
That's some world class diving on a budget.

Just my 2 cents worth.

The Legend...outta Tampa...Belize and roatan were sweet:D

Well now I work for myself, the number of variables that effect my earnings are staggering. On the bright side things have been good and I get plenty of time off for diving, shooting, and taking dive trips. I do maintaing a moderate level of discipline and keep my trips to 14 days or less. I decided skiing was just too much time in the cold therefore that time goes to other things.

I used to do track days... A racer friend of mine always said that racing motorcycles is like standing in a cold shower tearing up $100 bills!

Yeah, I don't race....just track days. Unless you can afford to buy a brand new bike each time you go out to race, it's just not worth it. But my insurance covers track days (non-timed events). Most of the time, it's not worth it to go through insurance though....and since it's not a race, I haven't had any issues with people passing dangerously close or bumping you for position. I agree, it is expensive....and while I love it, I think I love diving more :D

Am I the only one who thinks this is a rude question?

I don't find it rude; however, I think it's naive and certainally out of place.

Someone mentioned the survey results as being interesting... That's where the naive part comes in. I checked the 0-15k box because it's no ones business. Have you noticed that about 40% make $100k or better. WOW!

All those people better be pulling for McCain. I'm pulling for McCain. Obama will steal it all away.

I got lucky, just about the time I started getting into diving, I got run over on my motorcycle and got a pretty good settlement...cost me a broken leg , ankle and some road rash, oh yeah and a motorcycle...but looking back, it was worth it.

I make absolutely $0 annually.

I earn a lot more than that though.

I'm reporting every one of you to the Treasury Department for making money. :D

I also think this is a rude question but I'm not being asked directly and can choose not to answer. If others want to answer that's fine too.

I'm wondering; what STD's everyone has had or have?
None, I'm from back when diving was dangerous and sex was safe.:D

Ha, its only money!

Nothing is rude or offensive these days......if ya don't like it....go someplace else

Scuba is cheap and a really fun hobby, it is probably the least expensive thing I do.....

Anyone with half a brain will ignore the high and low categories. We're not that naive, and we know how many houses we own.
