Bye bye Sealife

Well today during the second dive at Porto Marie I managed to flood the DC600.

I did manage to salvage the SD card with the pictures of the first dive.

However, after this and sitting in a presentation by Andreas "Andi" Voeltz durig the Curacao Dive festival I am seriously considering moving onto a DSLR with underwater housing. For now I have a Nikon Coolpix in Ikelite housing which I will continue to use with the two strobes, but I seriously have my douts about investing in the dc800.

Nothing wrong with the Sealife cameras, in fact I learned a lot during the three months I used it (I take full responsibility for flooding it) but its time to move on for me.

I will still be active on the board and since I intend to use the Digital Pro strobes on the other housing, where possible I'll be glad to help.

Call Pioneer Research, who makes the SeaLife system, and see what they can do for you. They've been known to have wonderful support for folks who flood their systems.

The two strobes have been attached to the Ikelite housing creatively and are both firing to satisfaction. Seems like I will be going manual on the strobes now though. Anybody know if the digital Pro strobes have special circuitry for the auto setting inside the dc600 or if the auto setting will read all cameras?

With the optical pickup in place however I can't get the Ikelite deflector attached to the housing.
I read somewhere that somebody used masking tape on the inside, will give that a try.

As someone who has done this, you just toss it on the boat and go on with your day then call the insurance company. Kind of a pain in the butt, but no biggie.
