kmd just gave you 9, but hey, we hear what we want to hear....

yes, 9 reasons why wetnotes are better than a wrist slate IF you have to bring only one of the two. I'm talking about having both with me but using the wrist slate, for example, to record depth every 5 minutes in order to track my dive profile when using my computer in gauge mode.

I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you!

Yo Dudes,

This thread is no longer in the DIR forum.

I'm not going to go back through the entire thread and edit out all the massively toolish bozonity.

I'm not saying anyone has invalid ideas or practices, but for reasons that become obvious if it isn't a DIR discussion it doesn't belong in the DIR forum.

Everyone switch to decaf for the rest of the day and try not to vapor lock! :D

First, WHY do you need to track depth every five minutes? Second, do you think you're going to get better at this by relying on writing it down all the time? Third, if you really need to write it down, just pull out the wetnotes. If it's that hard (a hassle), then practice until it isn't.

I have to agree with Floater on this one.

I have seen a littany of reasons why wetnotes are better in most instances than a small wrist slate. And I agree with every single one of those reasons. But that list was really only a list of reasons why should have wetnotes with you, and why wetnotes are best for those purposes. Is it impossible to conceive of a situation where a small wrist slate might actually be better than wetnotes for a particular need?

My brain serves the same general purpose as a camera: recoding images for later recall. And yet for specific purposes (printing and sharing photos, for instance), a camera does a better job. Perhaps if I learned to paint better, I would not have to substitute gear for skill?

I have yet to see one coherent answer as to what is wrong with a small wrist slate if there is a legitimate purpose to using it in the dive, and the dive plan does not contra-indicate it's use.

I see nothing on GUE's website that says you can't have one. Where does this ban come from? Did JJ or GI3 issue an ex cathedra statement somewhere, stating that you can't have a wrist slate on practice dives (no entanglement risk) for a narrowly tailored purpose, in addition, of course, to wetnotes to be used for normal wetnote use?

First, WHY do you need to track depth every five minutes?

It helps me stay aware of the average depth and general dive profile for purposes of deciding how much dive time I still have left or potentially how much deco I would need if deviating from the planned schedule though I have never deviated beyond pre-planned contingencies.

Second, do you think you're going to get better at this by relying on writing it down all the time?

Yes.

Third, if you really need to write it down, just pull out the wetnotes.

I could do that, but I prefer the wrist slate.

If it's that hard (a hassle), then practice until it isn't.

As I said before, no matter how much I practice taking my wetnotes out of the thigh pocket and putting them back it will always take more time and effort than using the wrist slate for something like this. Not to mention that I have other things to do on a dive than just record my depth every five minutes so I don't want any extra hassles.

Ok not that its no longer DIR related....

I like to bungie a slate accross my forehead. It super convienent as I always know where it is, if I need to write a note to my buddy its a snap for him to read it as he just has to shine his light on it.

Seriously folks. Arguement is now over. Its in the do whatever the heck you like forum.

Like I said before, you would be immensely better off with an FFM with voice features instead.
