I just don't log dives
We're heading back to Florida and one of the places we're going to stay, is the Rainbow Springs RV Campground on the Rainbow River. It's across the river from KP Hole. I plan on doing some drift diving from my kayak. Looking at the campground on the satellite viewer, it looks like a long ways (500 yards) from the camp area to the river. There's an access road but no parking lot so it's most likely drop off only and even then, it's still a hike to the river. Has anybody stayed there and dove in the river from there? Can you ride up to the river or walk only? Bicycles ok? .

Yes, I examined their web site from top to bottom but it doesn't really give the conditions. I also emailed them asking for info but got no response. Thanks

I did years ago and I don’t remember having to haul the tanks a long ways. Seems like it was pretty easy and a cool dive.

I used the Water Taxi last winter when we were there but I plan on staying right at the river this time and using my kayak for drift dives. I had heard that it was a long walk from the parking area to the water at both the head springs and the State Park RV camp. It's just a short walk from the parking lot at KP Hole to the water. Oh well. I have a wheeled dolly for my kayak and can tow it with my bicycle. I'll just plan on using it that way and locking it up at the water.

Rangers there are very helpful, give them a call. I camped there a few nights and can't wait to go back.

Did you go in the water?

Yes. I was in the area for training so I did not have time to scuba there, but i did swim every day for a few hours. (With a mask)

I picked it during planning as a place to stay, ranger told me about the river when I got there, so I checked it out. It was amazing, and I was disappoonted I did not have time to dive it. I was there in December and there wer very few people there .

As others said, there is a taxi and such but scheduals change seasonally.

I've been thinking that someday we might camp there, swim over to KP Hole to catch the taxi, and do a drift dive back down and get out at the campground

Could you drive up to the river or was it a walk? Bicycles ok?
