Never been to Florida so I have no way of knowing what it's like. And before you haze me about CA vs FL diving, I didn't write the article, I just linked it thinking it would be fun reading.
So you tell me.
No intent nor interest to haze you. Was just wondering how you could say the only thing FL diving has over CA is warm water. In fact you don’t know. That’s ok. Everyone is welcome to their opinion, just like the author of the article. I’ve heard Catalina is fantastic. I’m sure it is.

I "mis-spoke" 😉

"Best" is always suggestive. Casino Point should be called the most popular because of the ease of diving and the crowds. It's the most dived (or over-dived) site in California. I can think of dozens of sites I would prefer to dive. For visitors or divers seeking a relaxing kelp dive, this is an okay site.

I think he did.:poke:

I too have dived some of the California places including Catalina and I am certainly jealous of you folks who can call that home but nonetheless, I will take SoFla.

I realize Californians like to claim ownership of scuba diving but actually it began in France and while LA County may have been the first USA cert Florida diving has given us all most all of what is now considered norm mainstream from long hose and tech, Hog, and I suppose DIR. And as I sit here between dives in Cozumel setting up my Florida rig for a night dive. What is a California rig? Oh, there is not one. But along with SoFla, I give it to SoCal, it is one of the places where there is still a vibrant and local diving culture :).

And Catalina is cool, if also cold.

Baloney. This moray would like to disagree, Jupiter to WPB any day over Catalina Island.
But they have those orange fish that we don't have in FLA !

I live in Florida, but have dove Casino Pt & the Santa Barbara islands. California diving is so different from our waters but it just amazing to see all the different things. Like others said, "Best" is subjective, but California is really great diving.

We're the home of the Freedom Plate! Thanks, Eric.
I am a Freedom Plate diver, but it remains a clique, a rarified and select group. But I also dive a VDH plate, made in Florida, USA by my late buddy Bryan Pennignton. And I will raise you an Oxy Travel Plate from Florida:

And I will top you a VDH Argonaut Kraken from Wesley Chapel Hill Florida also from VDH:

Y'all make those in California?

I guess this type of thing would be considered California style diving (Socal lobster diving).
It flew in the face of DIR pretty hard with their total disregard for "safety" and "wings" and "buddies" and anything else that was Florida DIR at the time.
Lets just say it was not received well by a bunch of miscreants that were the California diving scene at the time.
Now considered a bunch of outlaw cowboys.
