I want to replace my old, heavy console with an SPG. When picking an SPG is it essential that it rotate? Do you have any recommendations for a reliable SPG that is easy to read, affordable, and reliable? Thanks. My old console is at least 20 years old and is clunky.

Get a 24" hose to hang it on, with a bolt snap to clip it to your harness.

Great advice.

You can probably save a few bucks by getting it from Piranha.

I like any of the relatively inexpensive 2 or 2.5 inch chromed brass and glass "made-in-italy" SPGs, several brands sell them but they come out of the same factory as far as I know. DGX, Piranha, HOG, etc. I especially like the white text on black background. Make sure you order your preferred units (Bar or PSI).

Tie a small boltsnap to it like this, also lots of knot tutorials on youtube. How to Attach a Bolt Snap to Dive Equipment

Clip it off to your left hip belt D-ring (the proper tech / DIR position) or left chest d-ring where it can be quick-viewed without unclipping it in a rec setup.

I use a Halcyon Master. Easy to read. Tied and clipped with a bolt snap. Had it for ~10 years, no issues. I don't know what affordable is for you but I don't consider the price excessive.

Many people prefer a medium bolt snap or even the big eyelet type especially in colder water so they can get their finger in there to assist opening. Also, the standard recommendation for clipping off to the left waist D-ring for a singles rig is a 24/26 inches hose but I find that too short. I prefer a 30 myself. And a medium bolt snap with a large eyelet.

Never ever malign the humble and proven workhorse that is the console

Now that is extra magnificent!

Get some in ya!

Still using consoles today and forever and ever and spgs too so they don't feel too left out

+1 on the DGX advice

Brass and glass clipped with a stainless boltsnap. I use Scubapro but brand is less relevant as most brass and glass come from the same factory in Italy.
