In 2022, with retirement looming for longtime agency head David Scoggins, IDEA passed to a new generation of divers. The new generation is committed to building on the impressive history and heritage, while transforming IDEA to meet the challenges of the new millennium. IDEA is proudly owned by US Military Veterans and First Responders. Other agencies may be owned in the far east, but IDEA is still based in Florida, where it all started. The new leadership has over 70 years combined experience in the scuba industry. IDEA was the first training agency that started in 1952. The new leadership consists of: Rick Butler CEO and principal owner, Eric Bachmann COO and principal owner, Wade Howell Jr. President and principal owner, and Russ Novak VP of training, and principal owner. The new IDEA leadership is committed to providing outstanding support to the instructors and training facilities with new training materials, e-learning, and revised standards.
