If you were to make an ultimate "dive mix" of songs that to you embody diving and the diving culture, what would be some of the artists, albums and specific songs you would add? The kind of stuff you and your buddy would play to pump yourselves up, or put yourself in the mood as you drive to your favorite dive site or to meet your charter for a sweet dive.

Wow, that's a tough one!!!
The only thing that comes to mind is "Hi, Calypso" by John Denver.
But I guess there is the sound track from the James Bond movie "Thunderball".

David allen coe- Divers do it deeper
my own stuff- Rapture of the deep
Metallica- Fade to Black
Allan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett- Its Five o'clock Somewhere
Jimmy buffett- Fins
Jimmy buffett- Cowboy in the Jungle
J. Buffett - In another time (see the false horizon)
J. Buffett- Boat Drinks
J. Buffett and James taylor- False Echoes (highly recommended!!!)
J. Buffett- Son of a Son of a Sailor
Brad Paisley- I'm gonna miss her (the fishin song) (its about fishing but replace fish with dive and its the same deal)

And also...

Jethro Tull - Nothing is Easy

"Nothing is easy, you'll find
that the squeeze won't turn out so bad.
Your fingers may freeze, worse things happen at sea,
there's good times to be had."

Crosby, Stills, And Nash - Southern Cross
Lyle Lovett - If I Had a Boat
Jimmy Buffett- Cowboy in the Jungle
Jimmy Buffett - First Look
Jimmy Buffett - Banana Republics
Jimmy Buffett - I Have Found Me a Home
Jimmy Buffett - Island
Jack Johnson- The Horizon Has Been Defeated

This is exactly what I what I was talking about. Awesome suggestions.. Some of these I would have never thought of.

i have a dive playlist in the ipod - lots of buffet, some beatles, beach music, b-52's (rock lobster, junebug), some dead in honor of my instructor who loves them, and of course, billy squier's 'the stroke'...

Dream Theater - Pull Me Under :D
Dream Theater - Lines in the Sand
Joe Jackson - Drowning :11:
Van Halen - Light up the sky
Rush - Jacob's Ladder ("...follow men's eyes as they look to the skies - the shifting shafts of shining weave the fabric of their dreams...." Kelp diving , baby!)
Genesis - Mad Man Moon (chills...)

Tons of instrumentals run through my head as I dive. I can't shake Gamma's Solar Heat or DT's Hell's Kitchen of late. There's lots of others.

As you can tell, the generally acceptable water and boat music (Jack Johnson, Buffet, etc.) don't make the rotation. Just not my scene.

Southern Cross - excellent boat music. THE best song they did at CES a couple of years ago. Unreal show. Stephen is a genius.

I am haunted by music when I dive. Dive buddies are simply haunted by my incessent tapping and pounding on everything in sight...
