Hi,

San Diego's newest ocean non-profit is looking for citizen scientists to collect data for its shark citizen science projects. Ocean Sanctuaries currently has two shark projects that we are collecting data for:

1. Our 'Sharks of California' partnership with National Geographic's newest citizen science data collection tool, called 'Fieldscope,' which has been modified to allow divers to document their encounters with any shark along the California coastline. At least one photograph of each species is required.

Here is a link for more information on that project: Ocean Sanctuaries | – Fieldscope: Sharks of California

2. The Sevengill Shark ID Project: this project is open to any citizen science diver in the California or False Bay (CapeTown), South Africa geographical areas.

South African divers, see link below for more information on our citizen science partnership with Two Oceans Aquarium: www.aquarium.co.za/blog/entry/citizen-science-global-sevengill-shark-identification-project

We are looking for lateral photographs taken of the head and gill area of this species (Notorynchus cepedianus) in the wild in order to submit them to a pattern recognition software program to identify sharks which may be returning to the same area from year to year.

See link here for more information on the scientific methodology being used:
Our Methodology: Introduction | Ocean Sanctuaries' Sevengill Shark Sightings

To upload photographs to the project, please go here:

Many thanks in advance, and please do not endanger your safety to collect data for this or any other Marine Science Project.

Feel free to contact me offline if you have any further questions.
