In your experience, after an AOW couse how many dives should be done before starting a "Stress & Rescue" course ???

Ciao Erik Il Rosso

About 25 dives between OW and Advanced. I like to combine Advanced and SLAM.

I think the two (AOW and Rescue) address different issues and techniques. That being said, it seems to me that you need time to be comfortable in the water for either.

So, rather than counting dives, I'd look at the level of comfortability in the water under various conditions.

Enough dives to master whatever skills you feel you learned in AOW so that you can focus solely on learning the new skills taught in Rescue

I would have to agree. The number of dives that you have does not necessarily mean that you are comfortable in the water. Making sure that you dive in various conditons and being comfortable in those conditions will better prepare you for your Rescue and above!

Safe Diving!:)

I'm going to differ with the opinions given already on this one. My answer is take rescue as soon as possible. In fact, IMHO recsue should be part of the OW cirriculum and "Advanced" should actually be advanced.

The current advanced is just a way to get some extra dives in under the supervision of an instructor.

What you will learn in rescue has little to do with dive skill. What you learn is more about life saving techniques and avoiding problems. 90% of rescue is spent on the surface.

You will need to be able to perform a simple search pattern, which can be performed by most students right out of OW with a simple explanation of the technique. You will also need to be able to surface an unconcious diver without making an uncontrolled ascent, which is a little more dificult but not greatly so.

I say take your rescue now, you'll be a safer diver and a better buddy for it.

SOON.

Take Rescue as soon as you are comfortable with your buoyancy skills--no need to be perfected, just comfortable that you can make controlled ascents, descents, and swim around near the bottom without kicking it up.

Excellent class, that will also improve you diving despite most of the class being conducted at the surface.

Personally, I view rescue as essential basic diving skills. I think it should be done asap, with no more than 50 dives under your belt.
