I been a PADI certified rescue diver for over 40 years and was thinking of either purchasing a hookah system for FL beach dives in max 20' of water about 100-200 yds offshore behind my home. I mainly want to explore and spearfish or harvest lobster and tie off a kayak to the reef.

I was looking at this commercial unit:
or building one based off this air pump

The cons of DIY are by the time I buy all quality components it will total almost the first option. I wanted to use a good lithium battery ($120), quality 50" air hose & 2nd stage reg ($150), pump ($129) and various fittings & float ($100)

What do you think is the better option?

We've considered few, but the suppliers cannot export Lithium Ion batteries to Africa - There's some amazing units in Australia, but there's no way.

I am looking at a battery powered deflateable system, also from Australia.

As for building one, I think I just appreciate the portability and freedom of the smaller units.

These are all from the same supplier - Lithium Ion

...and then there's this one - Standard Battery/Deflateable - 13kg's.
