I dove Ohio quarries in a 7mm and a 5/3 hooded vest for a few years. I had fun. I like my drysuit a lot better -- but If you're above the thermocline in July and August, the 7mm will probably be OK. You'll see tons of classes with people in wetsuits.

Excellent and enviable neutral buoyancy, brother!Thankfully I have been using dry gloves exclusively. Lake Superior will do that to a person. But if temps will be that nice, I will definitely use wet gloves. I do still fumble quite a bit when manipulating clips and stowing my light cord. Here’s a lot of fumbling when clipping off my light to start / stop my GoPro so I can try to figure out why my back kicks suck:
